The Illinois Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for Children program is offering a free Pediatric Hyperglycemia and Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) (2nd Edition) self-study educational module. The purpose of the Pediatric Hyperglycemia and Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) (2nd Edition) education is to enhance the emergency care of pediatric patients who present with hyperglycemia and/or DKA. It covers a number of topics including appropriate: assessment, management, prevention of complications, disposition, and patient & parent/caregiver education. It is our hope that healthcare professionals will utilize these materials to further enhance the care of children in their own settings.

NOTE: This 2nd edition is a revision of the original resource published in October 2012.


This educational activity is approved for 3.0 continuing education hours.
Continuing education hours have been approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health Division of Emergency Medical Services and Highway Safety.
Course expiration date: December 31, 2014

New Pediatric Seizures course released!

The Illinois Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for Children program is currently offering a free Pediatric Seizures self-study educational module.  The purpose of the Pediatric Seizures education is to enhance the emergency care of pediatric patients who present with seizure activity.  It will discuss a number of topics including appropriate: assessment, management, prevention of complications, disposition, and patient & parent/caregiver education.  It is our hope that healthcare professionals will utilize these materials to further enhance the care of children in their own settings.

NOTE: This 2nd edition is a revision of the original resource published in June 2012.


This educational activity is approved for 1.5 continuing education hours. Continuing education hours have been approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health Division of Emergency Medical Services and Highway Safety.
